Interim Austin police chief Robin Henderson won't seek permanent role amid controversy, leaving uncertainty over future leadership as city seeks new chief.
Interim Austin Police Chief Robin Henderson confirmed she will not apply for the permanent chief position and will instead retire after nearly 27 years with the city. Henderson's decision leaves questions over the department's future leadership.
According to a memo from City Manager TC Broadnax, Henderson will remain with the city for a period of time to assist with the transition once a new chief is hired. "It has been a tremendous honor to serve as the Interim Chief of Police for the Austin Police Department," Henderson said. "Please know it is time for me to take a step back, enjoy time with my family and see what the next chapter in life has in store for me.".
