Customers aren't expected to lose water service , but Austin Water has taken some measures just in case. For instance, they will be at Bowie High School from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM on Friday providing free bottled water to those who need it. Austin Water urges southwest customers to conserve water during major line repair
What's prompting all of this? Austin water is needing to replace a leaking 4-foot diameter water line that comes out of its hilltop storage tanks near Westgate Blvd and Davis Lane in far South Austin. The repair is expected to last 8 to 12 hours.“We're used to repairing water lines in every condition and every weather," Jenkins said. "And so, the heat will not limit us in that capacity.
The pipeline that will be out of service Friday serves a huge area of south and southwest Austin, extending north past US 290 to Southwest Parkway, south past the Shady Hollow neighborhood to the SH-45 Southwest area, east to Menchaca Road and west to Oak Hill. A handful of smaller utilities that resell Austin water are also impacted.
Austin Water says their customers in the area may not notice anything at all, but remind them there will be no water flowing into the system in Southwest Austin all day long, so they need to conserve. That means no watering, no filling swimming pools, no laundry or car washing. Just hold off on any activity that would use a lot of water.
