Falcons 28, 49ers 14: Win streak ends as offense can’t rally around Garoppolo
ATLANTA — Defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans huddled his unit for a stern sideline speech as the 49ers’ game fell further out of reach Sunday.This was a different defense without Nick Bosa and five other would-be starters missing because of injuries. This wasn’t the NFL No. 1 crew.
“We had our chances to overcome. We made it harder on ourselves,” coach Kyle Shanahan said. “Yeah it’s a big deal missing those people but we had every chance to pull that off and had no room for error.” On fourth-and-2, with nine seconds left on the play clock, Garoppolo took the snap and threw low to a double-covered Samuel for an incompletion that, essentially, put an end to the 49ers’ two-game win streak.
Garoppolo finished 29-of-41 for 296 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Aiyuk and Kittle both had eight catches for 83 yards, and Samuel had seven for 79 yards. Midway through the third quarter, after falling behind 28-14, defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans huddled up his injury-riddled corps for a minute-long tough-lashing.
