The 49ers will be missing some key faces as they take the field against the Falcons.
Cornerback Emmanuel Moseley is out after tearing his ACL last week in Carolina, and his potential replacement Jason Verrett, recovering from last year’s ACL tear, had his return delayed thanks to soreness in practice this week. Jimmie Ward is out after fracturing a hand on the opening kickoff last week, the first play of his season.
The Falcons have injury issues of their own: Second-year tight end Kyle Pitts is questionable with a hamstring injury and linebacker Mykal Walker will be out with a groin injury. A Pitts return would help the Falcons’ offense operated by veteran quarterback Marcus Mariota, but they haven’t been reliant on the former No. 4 overall pick this season. Atlanta, which nearly climbed out of a 21-0 fourth-quarter hole in Tampa Bay last week, has the NFL’s fourth-best rushing offense at 164.6 yards per game and the third-fewest yards per game through the air .
