And novelist and screenwriter John Green is among our most passionate champions on social media, ready to take on those who would deem Indianapolis boring.“I'm real tired of people slandering my beloved hometown of Indianapolis,” he said before revealing a fun fact about the city: Indianapolis is home to the largest number of U.S. vice presidents…who never ascended to the presidency.
“Who are they? Vice presidents of the United States, all of whom are buried at Crown Hill Cemetery right here in Indianapolis, the world capital of dead American vice presidents who never became president,” he says. “And that's before we even get Mike Pence and Dan Quayle.” Green moved to Indianapolis from New York City in 2007, when his wife started a job at the Indianapolis Museum of Art.
“Don't tell me nothing's cool about Indianapolis. There is no place on earth that is home to more deceased vice presidents,” he said. Contact IndyStar reporter Cheryl V. Jackson at cheryl.jackson@indystar.com or 317-444-6264. Follow her on Twitter:
