An Indigenous Australian woman has slammed the proliferation of “bastardised” Welcome to Country ceremonies in two viral TikTok videos which have gone viral for her brutal cut through.
An Indigenous woman has lashed out at the proliferation of modern Welcome to Country ceremonies in a series of viral TikTok videos.
Ms King likened it to “forcing someone’s religion” on a person before declaring:"You either want to be a part of it because you want to be a part of it and you’re invited as a guest - but not to make money out of that". Ms King then shifted gears in her video, titled ‘Double Down on Cultural Awareness’, to call the proliferation of the ceremony an “insult” to the Indigenous Australians who still practice the ceremony as a “tradition”.“We don’t need recognition. That is modern day s***. Modern day stuff that’s taken away and bastardising our culture and our traditions so that you mob feel better about yourself.”
