It was a busy weekend in track and field.

Wiley was coming off a national record of 4:26.16 in the 1,600 meters, set June 11 at Allendale, Michigan. The 800 was a tuneup for this week’s USA Junior Championships, also at Eugene, where Wiley will try to qualify in the 1,500 for August’s under-20 World Championships.>> Brownsburg hurdler John Colquitt and North Central sprinter Ramiah Elliott were chosen Mr. and Miss Track and Field by the Indiana track coaches’ association.

>> Cathedral junior Kailee Swart was sixth with a pole vault of 12-9 ½, best in the state this year, at Greensboro. Ten girls have vaulted 13 feet in Indiana history. >> Valparaiso’s Kaylie Politza was fourth in the girls 800 in 2:07.22 at Philadelphia. She ranks No. 4 in Indiana history. >> Hamilton Southeastern was third in the girls shuttle hurdles relay at Philadelphia in 1:02.11. Hurdlers were Makenzie Loftin, Mia Kemp, Elia Blackmore and Ally Elsbury.
