The Headlands and nearby Mentor Marsh region is a hotspot for migratory birds, boasting some of the highest diversity and numbers in Ohio. A total of 352 bird species have been documented in Lake County alone.
Attendees will be able to enjoy expert-led field trips to prime birding locations, a boat trip on Lake Erie and informative presentations on bird identification, migration and other related topics at the event held at Headlands Beach State Park. David Petkiewicz, cleveland.comMENTOR, Ohio -- The first-ever Headlands Birding Festival will be held from Sept. 20-22 at Headlands Beach State Park in Mentor.
Attendees can look forward to expert-led field trips to prime birding locations, a boat trip on Lake Erie and informative presentations on bird identification, migration and other related topics. Birders of all experience levels are encouraged to participate. Two keynote speakers are scheduled for the event. On Friday evening, Jim McCormac, author of “Birds of Ohio” and nature photographer, will speak at the Springbrook Gardenhouse. Saturday night features Greg Miller, known for setting the record for most bird species seen in North America in a single year, a feat that inspired the film “The Big Year” starring Jack Black and Owen Wilson.
