IT'S now been nine years since Scots were given the chance to vote for independence in the 2014 referendum.
With a turnout of around 84.6%, Scotland voted against becoming an independent country.
We've rounded up some of the best images taken on the day of the independence referendum and on those that followed to mark the anniversary. A number of Scots stayed up throughout the evening to watch the results come in from across the country.In the end, 55% voted No while 45% voted Yes with more than 4.2 million people turning out to vote.The second image below shows a large number of people, from both the Yes and No side, gathered in George Square on the day after the referendum.
The image below shows pro-independence voters marching down Edinburgh's Royal Mile, hitting out at theRecent polling suggested that Scotland would vote Yes to independence in the event of a second referendum. Researchers at Find Out Now found support at 52% versus 48% excluding undecided voters and those who declined to answer.
