Mike Leigh's new film about a massacre in England 200 years ago has found relevance amid the Brexit mess
Tobias GreyThere are 160 speaking roles in Mike Leigh’s new film “Peterloo” about a notorious 1819 massacre in Manchester, England. “But unlike my previous 20 films, there is no star,” Mr. Leigh says.
The 76-year-old director grew up a short bus ride from St. Peter’s Field, where at least 11 people were killed and 400 injured when saber-wielding cavalry charged a political rally seeking to expand British democracy.
