The track record on nine-figure deals for free agents is terrible, but it didn’t stop Bryce Harper from signing a blockbuster 13-year, $330 million deal with the Philadelphia Phillies.
Harper’s off-field earnings are tops in the game at an estimated $6.5 million from partners like Under Armour, Rawlings, Sony, Gatorade and Acuvue contacts. His new Phillies jersey was, unseating Aaron Judge who was the top seller the past two years. Harper failed to win a playoff series in his seven years in Washington, D.C., and his off-field earnings will soar even higher if he can lead the Phillies to a third World Series title in franchise history.
