Unhealthy lifestyle behaviors contribute significantly to cardiometabolic diseases. This review examines the short-term and long-term benefits and cost-effectiveness of combined lifestyle interventions in preventing overweight, obesity, and associated cardiometabolic disorders in both controlled studies and routine care.
Unhealthy lifestyle behaviors such as poor diets and physical inactivity account for most of the cardiometabolic disease burden, including type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. Much of this burden is mediated by the effects of unhealthy lifestyle behaviors on overweight and obesity, and disproportionally impacts certain population groups—including those from disadvantaged socioeconomic backgrounds.
Short-term improvements in diet quality in people newly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes are associated with smoking status, physical activity and body mass index: the 3D case series study Associations of obesity phenotypes with weight change, cardiometabolic benefits, and type 2 diabetes incidence during a lifestyle intervention: results from the PREVIEW studyNCD Risk Factor Collaboration.
