Iloilo City will be on general community quarantine starting May 1, implementing more relaxed measures to curb the spread of the new coronavirus disease, Mayor Jerry Treñas said Wednesday.

Iloilo City will be on general community quarantine starting May 1, implementing more relaxed measures to curb the spread of the new coronavirus disease, Mayor Jerry Treñas said Wednesday.

Treñas said the city will be on general quarantine after it was excluded from the national government's revised list of areas where enhanced community quarantine, which implements stricter measures to contain the disease, would be extended until May 15. "This means we can impose more relaxed measures compared to the enhanced community quarantine," he said in a statement.

"We can now definitely finalize our exit plan as we look forward to bringing our city and our people to what we deem as a much better situation for all," he added. The mayor, who initially announced Tuesday night that the city will be under ECQ through May 15 after consulting with Presidential spokesman Harry Roque, asked for the residents' cooperation in the upcoming new phase.
