South Elgin police arrested a man early Thursday morning after he allegedly broke into a home, harmed an animal, and barricaded himself in the basement.

South Elgin police arrested a man early Thursday morning after he allegedly broke into a home, harmed an animal and barricaded himself in the basement.According to police, officers responded around 1 a.m. to a residence in the 600 block of Juli Drive, where they learned that Daniel J. Jenkinson, 28, had forced entry into the home and injured an animal. The residents, who knew Jenkinson, took the injured animal to an emergency veterinary clinic.

South Elgin officers requested backup from the Kane County Sheriff’s Office and the Kane County SWAT team. After using de-escalation tactics, officers took Jenkinson into custody without further incident. He was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.Jenkinson, who was on parole for aggravated battery to a peace officer, now faces multiple charges.The Illinois Department of Corrections has also issued a warrant for his arrest for violating parole.
