Senators on Tuesday voted 31-0 for the bill by Republican Sen. Arthur Orr. It now moves to the House of Representatives. An old state law allowed some sheriffs to keep remaining jail food funds.
reported Monday that the nonprofit Alaska Bird Club is working with the owner’s family to find homes for each of the hundreds of cockatiels the man left behind. The Anchorage club’s vice president says the man’s death was unexpected, and no arrangements had been made for the birds. The club says the birds were kept in a special aviary room with branches and nesting boxes, and the club will maintain them there while searching for new owners.
