Owen from I Saw the TV Glow Poster Watching Pink Static
I Saw the TV Glow became an unexpected hit from A24 in 2024, and director Jane Schoenbrun's next film looks like it will be even better. Schoenbrun's dissection of gender dysphoria and euphoria stood out to horror fans when I Saw the TV Glow first released.
Their unique visual style and interesting story made the film an instant cult classic and even caught the attention of director Martin Scorsese. Now, the latest film from Schoenbrun is dropping in theaters soon. Titled Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, it stars Hannah Einbinder as a director looking to create a remake of a fictional slasher series called Camp Miasma. Before she starts filming though, she sets out to get the approval of the series' star, played by Gillian Anderson. Teenage Sex And Death At Camp Miasma Promises A New Dissection Of Slashers From the beginning of the trailer, it's clear that this film will be putting slasher films under the microscope with the Friday the 13th franchise being the main source of inspiration. From a shot of a plethora of sequels in the fictional Camp Miasma series to a hand shooting out of a lake holding a weapon, this film will explore what makes the subgenre so versatile. What will be fascinating, though, is seeing how the relationship between Einbinder and Anderson's characters play into the story. The opening shot hints that the young girl watching the original Camp Miasma is the fictional director as a child. Camp Miasma has likely played a major role in her life since she was little, so the interaction between her and the star of the original movie could be just as fascinating as the scenes between Owen and Maddy in I Saw the TV Glow. Jane Schoenbrun's New Movie Will Continue The Best Part Of Their Films Jane Schoenbrun uses They/Them pronouns The best thing about Jane Schoenbrun's work is how they're able to communicate Trans themes through horror cinema. I Saw the TV Glow in particular brought tremendous emotion through Owen's struggles in the ending to highlight just how painful and traumatizing dysphoria can feel, while highlighting that it's never too late to realize that part of yourself. Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma will continue this welcome style of filmmaking. In an article highlighting Schoenbrun, The Washington Post mentioned that their new film will be"a slasher movie that investigates the horror trope of the serial killer." This means that it will explore horror villains like Norman Bates, Buffalo Bill, and Angela from Sleepaway Camp; as well as how they have impacted perception of Trans people in real life. It will be interesting to see what Schoenbrun will have to say about this common trope in the genre. Following the love for their previous film, Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma will be an ambitious follow-up. If it's just as good as I Saw the TV Glow though, it's bound to become another beloved cult classic.Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma arrives in theaters August 7, 2026 10 5.9/10 6/10 I Saw the TV Glow 10 stars 9 stars 8 stars 7 stars 6 stars 5 stars 4 stars 3 stars 2 stars 1 star Like Follow Followed PG-13 Drama Horror Release Date May 3, 2024 Runtime 100 minutes Director Jane Schoenbrun Writers Jane Schoenbrun Producers Emma Stone, Len Blavatnik, Dave McCary, Taylor Shung, Danny Cohen, Sarah Winshall, Ali Herting Cast See All
