State apiary inspector Phillip Carter said it can be difficult to identify these bees from typical European honey bees.
While no spotting of"killer bees" have been confirmed in south Alabama , one apiary inspector says its hard to tell one from the typical European honey bee.
“Visually, you can’t tell, said Carter. “Don’t think that you can sit there and look at the difference because that’s not going to happen.” “European honeybees will get after you, but it may be a small number,” said Carter. “With Africanized honey bees, it can be hundreds and hundreds of bees get after you and it doesn’t take a whole lot to provoke them.”
