An 18-year-old in Idaho has been arrested for attempting to provide support to ISIS and planning attacks on churches in the state. The suspect, Alexander Scott Mercurio, had pledged allegiance to ISIS and intended to carry out the attacks using knives, firearms, and fire. The FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force successfully foiled the plot and Mercurio is currently in custody.

Alexander Scott Mercurio, of Coeur d'Alene, allegedly pledged allegiance to ISIS and planned to carry out attacks on churches in the city on Sunday using "knives, firearms, and fire," according to a"The FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force conducted the investigation and thwarted Mercurio’s violent plot," according to the statement. "Mercurio is currently in custody awaiting his initial appearance which will be set by the Court.
"Mercurio proceeded to express support for terrorist organizations, specifically ISIS, online and in-person," the agent's affidavit states.
Authorities stated in the complaint that the suspect had purchased items consistent with his attack plans, which he "transmitted" Saturday along with a declaration of his allegiance to ISIS and his intention to die on the group's behalf.
