“This week’s winter storm is having an impact on our Dallas-Fort Worth operations, accounting for a significant number of cancellations,” American Airlines spokeswoman Gianna Urgo said. “The vast majority of affected flights were canceled in advance so we could proactively notify and accommodate our customers and avoid last-minute disruptions at the airport.”
Love Field teams began treating runways and roads on Monday and have been conducting “friction tests” to make sure that runways are safe to take off and land from, Love Field spokeswoman Lauren Rounds said. The travel havoc is mostly isolated to airports in the Texas region, with Austin-Bergstrom International Airport seeing about 170 cancellations as well.American has canceled 533 of its flights nationwide today, about 14% of its schedule, and Southwest has canceled 394, 10% of all of its flights.
