Dallas Love Field isn’t just home to commercial airlines, it also has Children’s Health’s transport team’s 40,000-square-foot hangar.An airplane is parked at the Children’s Health airport hangar at Love Field in Dallas, Texas, Tuesday, September 17, 2024.home to one Cessna Citation Encore jet, one Sikorsky S76 C++ helicopter, 12 neonatal and pediatric-equipped ambulances and behavioral health vehicles, are all equipped to provide care in a typical transportation environment.
The pediatric transport team will move newborns to 17 year-olds. About 75% to 80% of its transports are pediatric patients, but some are neonatal infants.Inside, neonatal stretchers hold some of the smallest babies, as tiny as 17 ounces, and maintain their body temperature. A specialized gas required by some patients is loaded into the transport vehicle.
The work areas, whether that be in an airplane, helicopter or even an ambulance, can be pretty tight. However, the team has developed ways to streamline care while transporting patients.Family members are also able to be with the patients during most transports and the transport team is also available for third-party transfers between two facilities.
