Iceland has written an open letter to other supermarkets
High street favourite Iceland has made a bold move by applying for a trademark on its popular prawn ring, issuing a stark warning to rivals such as Tesco , Aldi, and Asda against creating similar products for their festive selections.
He continued with a clear message to competitors: "We've had enough of the pretenders and we're now taking action. We've applied for a trademark and design application, and we expect our King Prawn Ring to be the only one on the shelves this Christmas." Should the application succeed, other supermarkets could face legal challenges for featuring a King Prawn Ring in their Christmas offerings. The full open letter from Iceland reads: "Dear all other supermarkets, In 1991, we first launched the iconic King Prawn Ring within our stores. Let's be honest, it was a shellfishly brilliant idea, but since then, we've seen more than a few copy-crustaceans crawling out of the pond.
They continue: "We are today asking you to remove your pretender King Prawn Rings from sale and to not include them in any of your impending Christmas ranges.
