Many petrol stations and in-house supermarket cafes have stopped accepting cash
Shoppers have been issued a warning as major supermarkets including Tesco , Asda and Sainsbury's have stopped accepting cash payments in several stores. Although all the leading supermarkets continue to accept cash at most of their stores, these three have introduced card-only retail outlets.
Asda has also transitioned to a cash-free system in nearly 270 petrol stations, where customers can only pay by card at the pumps. The supermarket giant justified this decision by stating that more than 90 percent of payments at its petrol stations were already made through card or contactless methods. However, Asda continues to accept cash at all its other outlets and supermarkets.
