Victor Francisco Lopez-Padilla was first arrested in June 2019 after illegally entering the U.S. near San Luis, Ariz.
Immigrations and Customs Enforcement officials on Wednesday announced the arrest of a Guatemalan migrant wanted in his home country for allegedly assaulting a public official .
He was released and issued a notice to appear before an immigration judge, and a judge in December 2019 ordered he be removed from the U.S.,Guatemalan authorities in 2022 issued warrants for Lopez-Padilla’s arrest. He was accused at the time of forging license plates, illegally transporting firearms and assaulting a public official.
A federal grand jury in the District of Vermont later indicted the migrant for human smuggling charges in June 2023. Enforcement and Removal Boston officers then captured Lopez-Padilla in August 2023. The migrant was taken into ICE custody after he pled guilty to human smuggling charges in July. He was removed that month and turned over to Guatemalan authorities, ICE announced Wednesday.“Victor Francisco Lopez-Padilla unlawfully came to the United States in an apparent attempt to escape justice in his home country, and then proceeded to break the law here,” ERO Boston Field Office Director Todd Lyons said.
