Local officials ignored a request to hold the migrant until ICE could take custody of him, federal officials say.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials on Friday announced the arrest of a Guatemalan national accused of raping a Massachusetts resident.

Castro-Alvarado was arrested in February in Lynn, Mass. for assault and battery on a family or household member. Boston Enforcement and Removal Operations, a division of ICE, filed an immigration detainer against him. In April, Castro-Alvarado was arraigned in Essex County Superior Court on two counts of rape and indecent assault and battery on a person over 14. He was released without bail despite ERO’s detainer request.
