An ice jam on the Chagrin River led to flooding and affected several homes in the Willoughby Hills area. The National Weather Service issued a flood warning, and residents were advised to stay safe. News 5 was on the scene reporting on the unfolding situation.

An ice jam broke free on the Chagrin River, causing it to swell and impact several homes in the vicinity. The Willoughby Hills Police Department reported the incident. The National Weather Service issued a flood warning for the Chagrin River near Chardon Road and Willoughby, in effect until 1 a.m. Sunday, due to the ice jam. Around 12:25 a.m., Willoughby police and fire units responded to Milann Drive for reports of rising water and ice from the river.

Police stated that the water levels began to recede before any rescue operations were necessary. As a precautionary measure and considering the unpredictable nature of the river, police conducted a reverse 9-1-1 call to residents potentially affected by the flooding. News 5 was present at the scene and observed the ice jam temporarily halted by Pleasant Valley Park. Despite this, residents could feel the consequences of the flood. Willoughby Fire Department was on site assisting with evacuations. The WHPD stated that the following areas might experience flooding: Mentor, Willoughby, Eastlake, Timberlake, Willoughby Hills, Kirtland, and Waite Hill. The NWS urges residents in these areas to visit HERE for flood safety and preparedness information. News 5 will continue to provide updates on this developing situation
