Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials arrested a convicted child molester, Jorge Armando Jacinto, immediately upon his release from a Rhode Island facility. Jacinto had served 14 years for child molestation charges.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement ( ICE ) officials arrested a convicted child molester immediately upon his release from a Rhode Island facility. Jorge Armando Jacinto had served 14 years in the adult correctional institution in Cranston, Rhode Island. He was first arrested in February 2011 and convicted by the Providence/Bristol County Superior Court of nine child molestation offenses. Jacinto was sentenced to 40 years in prison, but the court suspended 20 years of that sentence, ICE said.

Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Boston officials arrested Jacinto upon his release on Dec. 15 and issued him a notice to appear before a Department of Justice immigration judge. The agency says the man violated provisions of the Immigration and Nationality Act. In 2012, the Providence Superior Court convicted Mr. Jacinto of four counts of felony first-degree child molestation and five counts of felony second-degree child molestation in Rhode Island,” ERO Boston acting Field Office Director Patricia Hyde said. “ERO Boston lodged an immigration detainer against him while he was serving his sentence for those crimes, and we’re fortunate that the Adult Correctional Institution honored it. Detainers ask local jurisdictions to hold a suspect past their release date as ICE weighs deportation proceedings. Some authorities will purposefully ignore these requests in defiance of immigration policies. The arrest comes as ICE also announced the arrest of an illegal immigrant accused of kidnapping a teenager in Holtville, Alabama on New Year's Eve. The agency told The National News Desk (TNND) it encountered 30-year-old Yordy Centeno-Melchor on Jan. 3 after he was arrested for alleged attempted kidnapping. Centeno-Melchor was deported from the U.S. six times before allegedly committing the crime, according to ICE. Discussions about combating illegal immigration have ramped up as the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump draws nearer. Incoming border czar Tom Homan raised concerns Sunday over migrants illegally entering the U.S. in the final days of President Joe Biden's term. “We are trying, but this administration, even after what happened the last couple of days, they’re still bringing thousands through the CBP One app, the CHNV program from Cuba, Nicaragua, Haiti, Venezuela,” Homan said on Fox News of the Biden administration. “They’re going to do as much damage as they can until President Trump walks back to that office.' Outgoing Acting Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director P.J. Lechleitner told NBC News Wednesday Biden should have taken action to tighten border security sooner. “I think the career people in DHS would have liked that,” Lechleitner said. “And all of us in DHS, quite frankly, I don’t know if anybody in DHS wouldn’t have wanted that earlier.” Jackson Walker on X at @_jlwalker_ for the latest trending national news.
