Alien vs Predator still

While the existing Alien Vs Predator movies might be critically reviled and hated by fans, I’m still almost certain that the revival of the Alien and Predator franchises makes another outing almost inevitable in the near future.

The Alien movies received a mixed critical reception. Director Ridley Scott’s 1979 original and James Cameron’s first sequel, 1986’s Aliens, are both viewed as classics that helped define the sci-fi horror subgenre. However, while both movies are listed alongside John Carpenter’s The Thing as some of the best sci-fi horror movies ever made, their sequels were a much more mixed bag. David Fincher’s unremittingly bleak Alien 3 proved that darker doesn’t always equal better, while 1997’s follow-up Alien: Resurrection was a tonally bizarre flop. Similarly, the Predator movies have enjoyed a mixed critical reception, although the franchise’s reputation has improved in recent years. How Disney Resurrected Alien And Predator The Alien series was helped out by Scott’s return for 2012’s prequel Prometheus and 2017’s Alien: Covenant, both of which were viewed as big improvements on the later Alien sequels, despite their flaws. However, the Predator franchise had an even more impressive critical turnaround. The series started off strong with 1987’s original cult classic Predator, but 1990’s Predator 2 was a campier affair that tried to cram too much into its limited runtime. A futuristic crime thriller, a police procedural, and a gruesome survival horror all in one, Predator 2’s ambitious plot was overstuffed and underwhelming. Things only got worse with 2010’s Predators and 2018’s The Predator, which took the franchise’s action to space and returned to the concrete jungle of LA for two disappointing outings. At this stage, it seemed like nothing would work for the series, until 2022’s prequel Prey saw a young Comanche warrior, Amber Midthunder’s Naru, evade the Predator. Director Dan Trachtenberg’s Prey re-envisioned the franchise’s basic setup and, by offering viewers an original new perspective, produced the best Predator movie since the 1987 original. Trachtenberg followed this triumph up with two superb new Predator movies in 2025, the anthology movie Predator: Killer of Killers and Predator: Badlands. Meanwhile, it was clear that the Alien franchise was sitting up and taking notes. Like Prey, 2024’s Alien: Romulus took an admirably stripped-back approach to the franchise, eschewing the increasingly complex lore and philosophical pondering of Scott’s prequels in favor of the original movie’s intense, “Haunted house in space” atmosphere. A grim, horror-forward take on the franchise, Alien: Romulus was a brutal reminder of how claustrophobic, thrilling, and downright terrifying the series could be at its best. 2205’s small-screen series Alien: Earth expanded on this success with a more immersive story that was no less dread-inducing, expanding the world of the series without sacrificing scares. Badlands Continued Predator's Long History Of Alien Connections Thus, in 2026, the two franchises are perfectly poised to intersect again. Admittedly, the Alien Vs Predator movies are among the worst of the Alien and Predator movies in terms of their reviews, but these original movies arrived amid a low point for both franchises. In contrast, their recent outings have done a lot to link up the two series. 2025’s Predator: Badlands took a major risk by making the movie’s hero a Predator, with Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi’s surprisingly sympathetic Dek proving himself to be more than an easily dismissed runt throughout the movie’s propulsive story. However, Trachtenberg’s subversive Predator sequel also cast Elle Fanning as a synthetic created by the Weyland-Yutani Corporation, merging theWhat A Modern Alien Vs. Predator Would Look Like 2004’s much-mocked Alien Vs Predator made a medley of inexplicable mistakes, from setting its action in the current day instead of the future to revealing that the two titular sci-fi monsters had been visiting Earth for millennia unbeknownst to humans. 2007’s Aliens Vs Predator: Requiem made matters worse by revealing that Xenomorphs once invaded a small American town. In contrast, a modern Alien Vs Predator movie could use the consistent canon set up by projects like Alien: Romulus, Alien: Earth, and Predator: Badlands to offer a more cohesive blend of the two franchises. Instead of coming up with entirely new backstories for the monsters and the Weyland-Yutani Corporation, this long-awaited crossover could pick up where these movies left off. A New Alien Vs. Predator Would Be Good For Both Franchises Predator: Badlands proved, through Elle Fanning’s synthetic Thia, that the series can benefit from using plot elements from the Alien movies even without including Xenomorphs. Meanwhile, Alien: Romulus’ grim story proved that it is tough for any human characters to stand a chance against the Xenomorph, thus making a face-off against the Predator more appealing. Posts By Cathal Gunning The timing could not be better for a do-over Alien Vs Predator movie that takes the recent canon changes from both franchises and uses them to tell a smarter, scarier story than the misguided earlier movies. As such, a new Alien Vs Predator should be added to the Alien and Predator franchises soon.
