This trail takes you through abandoned railway tunnels, along viaducts and past old mills, without a car in sight
I’m a bit of a wuss when it comes to cycling. I hate cars coming close to me, loathe the stress of navigating traffic and even trying to indicate with my right hand fills me with dread.
It’s wide, smooth and relatively flat, with a slight uphill incline from Bakewell, but this means it’s wonderfully roomy, with none of the stress of city cycling. I tried the trail with some friends during a recent trip to the Peak District and every second was delightful. While the trail is flat and easy to follow, the views are varied with surprises along the way. One second you could be cycling under the thick cover of trees, the next you’re gliding past open fields.
Although they are lit up during daylight hours, they still feel very dark compared to the outside and it does take a while to adjust to them. They are also freezing cold, so be warned, yet very fun to cycle through.
