Hyundai will unveil a major world debut at the New York Auto Show on April 1. CEO José Muñoz and North America CEO Randy Parker will both attend the debut. The redesigned Tucson is the leading candidate, based on recent spy shots.
The New York Auto Show is shaping up to be one of the largest events of the year with roughly half a dozen debuts. This includes two new Subarus, the redesigned Volkswagen Atlas, the new Infiniti QX65, and the 2027 Kia Seltos. We can add one more to that list as Hyundai is teasing a “major world debut” on April 1. It certainly sounds like something important as Hyundai Motor CEO José Muñoz will be joined by Hyundai Motor North America CEO Randy Parker as well as two key designers. As you can see, the teaser images and video simply show a cubed rock floating above a remote landscape. https://youtu.be/eAhaN_luZis This has us wondering if Hyundai is planning a Meteor concept to follow last year’s Crater, which debuted at the Los Angeles Auto Show. However, that seems like a bit of a stretch. That being said, Hyundai is working on an assortment of new and updated models including a redesigned Tucson and facelifted Santa Fe. The former incorporates some cues from the aforementioned Crater concept and appears to have a fully enclosed grille that is flanked by angular daytime running lights that flow into large headlights. SHproshots The model also has streamlined bodywork, flush-mounted door handles, and heavily stylized fender flares. They’re joined by vertical taillights as well as a new rear end with a relocated license plate recess. Hyundai is keeping details under wraps, but the redesigned Tucson is expected to have a new hybrid powertrain. We can also expect a significantly improved plug-in hybrid variant as well as a possible N model. The latter could have a turbocharged 1.6-liter engine and a rear e-axle that work together to deliver a combined output of around 300 hp . Baldauf The facelifted Santa Fe is a far less likely candidate as it’s expected to debut in 2027. That being said, it sports an updated front end with a wider grille and vertical LED daytime running lights that double as turn signals. They’re joined by smaller rectangular headlights, which are now mid-mounted. The model is also expected to adopt a new Pleos Connect infotainment system as well as updated powertrains. This could include an all-new range-extended variant.
