Forecasters say Francine is getting stronger, with top sustained winds blowing as high as 90 mph

Forecasters from the National Hurricane Center say people along the coastlines of Louisiana and Mississippi should brace for “a danger of life-threatening storm surge today” and should “follow advice, including evacuation orders, given by local officials.” If its sustained winds get as high as 96 mph, Francine would be a Category 2 hurricane when it makes landfall, capable of causing extensive structural damage, tree damage and long-term power outages.
