The program will featured speeches from local activists, community leaders and subject-matter experts, along with spoken-word performances by CagedBird and musical sets from Firepit and Jax Singing Resistance. “Joy is resistance, and community is power,” organizers said in a statement, calling the event “more than a march” and a reflection of “the strength, creativity and unity of the people.” Organizers said satellite protests will fill street corners across the city in the morning, creating a citywide presence as people converge downtown. After the rally, No Kings “After Dark” will offer an evening of burlesque, spoken word and live music, including a performance by local artist Mama Blue. Additional after-parties and community gatherings are planned throughout the city. Organizers emphasized a commitment to nonviolent action and asked participants to act lawfully, support one another and maintain a safe, respectful environment. No Kings is described by its backers as a peaceful national day of action responding to what they called increasing authoritarian excesses and corruption at the federal level, including actions they say target immigrant families and threaten democratic institutions.
