“All of them are fully vaccinated already and a lot of them have also had their boosters. So these 400 are either asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic,” he added.The hospital still follows the “conventional” protocols of isolating infected HCWs for 10 days, not seven days as provided for in new guidelines of the Department of Health .
Del Rosario said PGH remains in “crisis mode” with many of its healthcare workers and 265 patients infected with COVID-19. “So the administration decided, because of the circumstances, to change our quarantine protocols because we are in a crisis mode,” he added. “Maybe we can get some help from them just to tide us over, until we get some of our health care workers who got infected back,” Del Rosario said.The Filipino Nurses United and the Alliance of Health Workers , meanwhile, are up in arms over the new DOH guidelines allowing shortened isolation and quarantine for medical frontliners.
AHW president Robert Mendoza also strongly criticized the new DOH circular, which he said will “pose further danger to the health and safety of health workers as well as the patients.” Based on the circular, the quarantine period for fully vaccinated frontlines can be waived from the usual seven days while the isolation period for fully inoculated is shorted from 10 days to seven days.
Cajipe, a obstetrician-gynecologist, expressed hope the surge would pass so that the hospital can resume its pre-natal services. Fabella hospital is best known as a maternity hospital.
