Police Scotland has warned of a 'horrific trade in trauma and misery' after recording just under 2,000 online child abuse offences last year.

The organisation runs a confidential hotline for people “concerned about their own online or offline behaviour towards children.”And between 2015 and 2021 there has been a staggering 511% increase in the referrals to Police Scotland about online offending targeting children. The number of crimes recorded as grooming of children for the purposes of sexual offences dropped from 96 to 79.
