Area teacher Aubri Simpkins has joined HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology as its first educator professional learning specialist based in Dothan.

Simpkins comes to HudsonAlpha from the Enterprise School System, where she has taught since 2023. Before that she taught at Andalusia High School for eight years. She becomes the fifth HudsonAlpha employee working full-time in the Wiregrass.

The WPP allows students to gain real-life research experience while using the power of genomics to develop more drought-and-disease-resistant peanut varieties. The WPP is a first-of-its-kind opportunity for area high school students to learn from HudsonAlpha Faculty Investigator Josh Clevenger, PhD.

HudsonAlpha Wiregrass will be the anchor tenant of the Wiregrass Innovation Center. The state of Alabama and the Wiregrass Foundation are funding this 45,000-square-foot City of Dothan facility, which began construction earlier this year and is scheduled to open in late 2025.
