With the trial of two WA parents accused of starving their daughter drawing to a close, a jury will soon have to decide whether they intentionally denied her nourishment to keep her their 'little girl forever'.
The girl , whose parents are accused of starving her, left court this week with a supporter after a plan to have her testify was abruptly changed."She'll always be my little girl."
The mother, along with the now 20-year-old woman's father, are charged with causing their child to suffer over a number of years, and this week both testified, providing a revealing insight into the family's situation and the way they raised their only child.A series of photographs shown to the jury over the past few weeks have revealed why the parents are facing trial.
She couldn't peel a banana, use a can opener or blender, or undertake household chores, the court was told, right up until she was taken into state care at the age of 17.But the outside world eventually intruded on this cloistered and circumscribed way of life when she began to take ballet lessons in 2016.
The girl had been due to testify in her parents' defence, but the plan was changed at the last-minute.The teachers all thought her daughter was an exceptionally talented dancer, the mother said, and had never raised any concerns with her.Lack of social development Ms Warrington found she couldn't go shopping by herself, carry out household chores or prepare a simple meal, even one which did not involve cooking.
The toys and childish clothes were "old", the mother said, and she had unpacked them from moving boxes after her daughter had been taken from her parents' care so she could "sort through" them.Asked where any possessions relating to her teenage years were in the photos, the mother said they couldn't be seen because they were stored either in the garage of the home or inside the girl's Harry Potter-decorated wardrobe.
