Unseasonable warmth and muggy air will continue into Tuesday before a strong cold front moves in midweek and brings drier and cooler air.
We have passed the midpoint of December, and it’s already clear that San Antonio has had, at best, a moist month. Yes, we have had eight days with at least a trace of rainfall, but the city’s official climate observation site at San Antonio International Airport has accumulated only 0.56 inch of rain this month. Nonetheless, the moisture-rich air and muggy weather has elevated mold and tree allergens in Texas.
Here’s a first look at the Christmas weather forecast in Texas. Not only will we not see any relief from allergens this week, we’ll likely see mountain cedar, or Ashe juniper pollen showing up stronger on the allergy count after a cold front later this week. Today's forecast Wet and muggy weather will continue today as a previous weak frontal boundary stalls just north of San Antonio in Central Texas. This will keep us within the warm sector, with southerly winds.
Texas weather can amplify allergies, so why is mountain cedar considered to one of the worst? With a cold front arriving from the northwest on Wednesday, we’ll need to be on the lookout for a spike in mountain cedar allergy levels later this week. The cedar pollen, originating from Ashe juniper trees that dominate the Hill Country, is expected to be released.
