A majority of cervical cancers occur in women who have never been screened. More of them, including disadvantaged and regional women, are now taking the test thanks to a new method.
Many go without testing for cervical cancer, but a new self-collection method is changing that.abc.net.au/news/self-collection-cervical-cancer-screening-test-in-private/102505560A new method of cervical screening allowing women to collect their own samples is improving participation among Queenslanders who have never been tested before, new data shows.
Participation rates are also believed to be lower among First Nations' women, those with disabilities, people from lower socio-economic backgrounds, women living remotely, and those who identify as lesbian or transgender. Women are advised to insert the swab a few centimetres into the vagina and rotate it for about 30 seconds.
