Starting Jan. 3, the entrance ramp south of Westheimer to southbound Loop 610 will close for most, if not all, of 2023, officials said. That’s likely to put even more motorists on local streets in search of another southbound ramp in Uptown. In February, demolition of the southbound loop lanes will close I-69 for an entire weekend, followed by frequent nighttime closings when crews are ready to hang steel beams for the new Loop 610 southbound span. Those nightly closings will include the HOV lane along the freeway.TxDOT officials, citing rising prices, predict they will need to say 'no' to some highway projectsMeanwhile one of the biggest facets of the freeway interchange rebuild will wait months beyond 2023.
Once scheduled for completion in late 2021 or early 2022, when officials broke ground in September 2017, the interchange work is in its fifth year, replacing both the main lanes of Loop 610 through the crossing and making all of the ramps between the two major freeways.
