Honda is recalling almost 300,000 Honda and Acura vehicles due to faulty software that could cause engine problems.

Honda is recalling nearly 295,000 Honda and Acura vehicles due to a potential issue with faulty software that could cause engine stalls or loss of power. The recall, announced on January 23rd by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), affects 294,612 vehicles, including 2023-2025 Honda Pilot SUVs, 2022-2025 Acura MDX Type-S SUVs, and 2021-2025 Acura TLX Type-S sedans.

The issue stems from improperly programmed software in the fuel injection electronic control units (FI-ECUs). According to Honda, this could lead to sudden changes in the throttle, triggering the check engine light and causing the engine to lose power, hesitate, or stall. The automaker emphasizes that this could increase the risk of crashes or injuries. Honda states that it discovered the issue through the monitoring of telematics information. To address the problem, Honda will provide a software update to the affected vehicles. Owners of recalled Honda Pilots, Acura MDXs, and Acura TLXs will receive a letter in mid-March notifying them of the recall. Authorized Honda and Acura dealerships will reprogram the FI-ECU with the corrected software at no cost to the owners. As of January 16th, the issue has not resulted in any reported injuries or accidents
