A Berkeley Township, New Jersey, man fatally shot one of two armed men who entered his home last month with the intention of robbing him, authorities said Monday.
The investigation began on March 9 when Toms River Police officers were called to Community Medical Center at 10:15 p.m. for a report of an unresponsive man with a gunshot wounds, the prosecutor’s office said. Investigators say they determined Mosley and Burke went to Dillard’s home armed with guns to rob him – of what, the prosecutor’s office did not say. It’s unclear if Dillard knew either Burke or Mosley.
A search of Dillard’s home revealed that he had a half pound of marijuana for distribution purposes and he is accused of destroying evidence left behind. Burke also destroyed evidence of his involvement with the robbery, investigators allege.
