The Los Angeles County medical examiner has ruled Hollywood writer and director Jeff Baena died as a result of suicide. Baena, 47, was found dead in his home Friday, January 3. Known for co-writing the acclaimed 2004 film “I Heart Huckabees,” which featured Dustin Hoffman and Lily Tomlin, Baena also wrote and directed the 2016 dramedy “Joshy” starring Thomas Middleditch, CNN said.The two worked on several projects together, including the horror-comedy “Life After Beth” in 2014 and the 2017 historical comedy “The Little Hours.” In 2021, the couple collaborated in the comedy series “Cinema Toast.” They worked together again in the 2022 film “Spin Me Round.” “Our house became this strange post-production facility and he’s downstairs on his Zooms or on his sessions and I’m upstairs editing, we’re just going back and forth,” Plaza told People. “Yeah, it was very us. We were not baking sourdough bread, but we were sifting through hours of old movies and footage and re-cutting them together and just letting our minds go on a trip. So, it was great.
