Writer-director Jeff Baena , known for his darkly comedic independent films like 'The Little Hours' and his frequent collaborations with actress Aubrey Plaza , has died at the age of 47. Baena was found dead Friday morning at a Los Angeles home. The circumstances surrounding his death are currently under investigation by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office.
Baena co-wrote the 2004 film 'I Heart Huckabees' and directed five of his own films, four of which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. He began dating Plaza three years before she starred in his 2014 directorial debut, the zombie comedy 'Life After Beth.' Baena's 2016 film 'Joshy' featured Thomas Middleditch as a man grappling with the suicide of his fiancee. Growing up in Miami, Baena's interest in cinema was sparked by films like 'A Clockwork Orange' and '8 1/2.' He attended film school at New York University and described himself as drawn to 'left-of-center things.' Baena married Plaza in 2021
