A high school principal in Chester County, Pennsylvania, is facing a police investigation following his sudden resignation. The West Chester Area School District is cooperating with law enforcement, but details about the investigation remain limited.

A Chester County high school principal, who suddenly resigned earlier this week, is now under a police investigation, the district says. In a statement, the West Chester Area School District spokesperson said, 'The West Chester Area School District is fully cooperating with law enforcement in their investigation involving the former principal of Rustin High School. Our priority remains the safety, well-being, and support of our students and staff.

' The district held a school board meeting Thursday evening to accept the former principal’s resignation and, pending board approval, designate an Interim Principal at Rustin High School. In a letter sent home to Rustin High School families, the district stated that Dr. Michael Marano resigned after 11 years in the position on Monday. On Wednesday, another letter sent home from the district Superintendent stated that local law enforcement is involved and on site speaking with individual members of the Rustin High School community. 'We are fully cooperating with law enforcement and will share more information when we are able,' the letter stated. 'We are aware that rumors may be circulating, and we recognize the concern this situation creates. We ask for your patience as we work through the investigation. The Westtown-East Goshen Police Department would not comment on an investigation, but said a police presence isn’t uncommon as they work with a School Resource Officer inside the building. In a written statement to FOX 29, the Chester County District Attorney, Christopher de Barrena-Sarobe, said, 'The District Attorney's Office is aware of a Westtown-East Goshen Police presence at Rustin High School recently. It would be inappropriate to confirm or deny whether that presence has amounted to a criminal investigation at this time. That said, I want to reiterate that we take the care and safety of teachers and students extremely seriously and, as always, will support the Westtown-East Goshen Regional Police Department as needed.
