Dothan's Tanner Ormes nearly earned a perfect game in the Wolves' bowling win over city rival Houston Academy Wednesday at Patricia Lanes.

DAVID MUNDEE Dothan girls and boys bowling teams defeated Houston Academy in the season opener for both programs on Wednesday at Dothan’s Patricia Lanes.

The biggest drama came in the boys match as Dothan’s Tanner Ormes was perfect through the first nine frames during the traditional format. Heading into the final frame, he had recorded a strike in each of the nine rolls. However, the run ended in the final frame as he knocked down eight of the 10 pins on his first roll and got just one of the remaining two in his last attempt.

Finishing behind Ormes for the Dothan boys in the traditional round was Landon Conrad with a 194, highlighted by seven strikes and three spares. Wesley Hutto followed with a 178 with four strikes and three spares. Gavin Hendershott shot 168 with six strikes.The HA boys were led by Trey Bradley with a 210 score, highlighted by four strikes in the last two frames. Simon Nguyen followed with a 180 and Logan Harrell with a 166.

In the girls competition, Sophie Donner led Dothan with a 166, highlighted by one strike and five spares. Kelsey Peaden followed with a 149 behind three strikes and two spares. Megan Hodges was next with a 138 score with one strike and four spares.For the Houston Academy girls, Margaret Pompa recorded a 143 score behind three strikes and three spares.
