Here are the vehicles that rack up the most miles:
A just-issued study concludes that the vehicles that are driven, on average, the most miles per year are also among the least fuel-efficient rides on the road. According to an analysis of 2.3 million used car sales conducted by the website , eight out of the top 10 vehicles that rack up the most miles are full-size sport-utility vehicles.
The top model in this regard, the Chevrolet Suburban, sees an average of nearly 15,000 miles added to the odometer every year. That’s 24% higher than the average among all vehicles, which stands at 11,987 miles. “The Suburban is known for its expansive cargo room while comfortably seating up to nine passengers, which makes it popular for large families as well as for fleet and livery use,” says Ly.
The closest a bona fide passenger car comes to making the list is the Toyota Prius, which stands at number 11, with an average of just over 13,500 miles driven per year. Its generous fuel economy makes it cheap to drive for long distances. Other passenger cars that owners tend to drive the most are mainly midsize sedans. These include the Nissan Altima , Chevrolet Malibu , Honda Accord , Chevrolet Impala , and the Toyota Camry .
