Houston lawyer, Herb Ritchie, was at the University of Texas tower, 40 years ago during the Whitman sniper shooting rampage. Ritchie started running for office in 2002 when voters rarely elected judges lacking prosecutorial experience. He finally won the 337th District Court in 2008 after beating two-term Republican incumbent Don Stricklin.
