Henry County officials are urging residents to avoid all non-essential travel due to dangerous icy road conditions persisting on day three of winter weather.

Officials are issuing a stark warning to residents as they head into day three of wintry weather. Henry County 9-1-1 director Chad Sowell is urging people to avoid traveling unless absolutely necessary. While some roads have begun to thaw, treacherous conditions persist in numerous areas. Henry County Road 17 exemplifies these dangers, with vehicles stranded on the roadside due to ice accumulation.

Sowell emphasizes the severity of the situation, stating, 'No matter how skilled a driver you believe yourself to be, ice will inevitably lead to a crash.' He urges the public to exercise extreme caution if travel is unavoidable. 'The roads, particularly low-lying areas and bridges within Henry County, are still heavily iced and may be accompanied by snow,' Sowell warns. 'If you don't absolutely have to be out, please refrain from traveling.'Early Thursday, the Alabama Department of Transportation closed State Highway 134 East, leading out of Headland, due to ice accumulation on the bridges near the Headland Country Club. Sowell reports that the most recent incident involved an 18-wheeler blocking both lanes of State Highway 10 West and County Road 25 after becoming stranded due to ice. These ongoing challenges highlight the importance of heeding official warnings and prioritizing safety during this period of inclement weather
