Destroyed signage on this South Bay stretch is going to be replaced again, but how long will it last this time?

At Story Road and Lancelot, island signage was destroyed months ago. It has been numerous times. One night in September, a driver hit the center island, skidded to Moraes Court and destroyed a pickup prior to stopping. Story Road was worked on, as was the island, but no new signage or reflectors were installed. The black on the island, presumably from vehicle tires, makes the island difficult to see, especially at night.

Over the years there have been many accidents in this area of Story Road. Please ask the city to replace AND improve the signage at Lancelot. On your second question, he said that, per the California Vehicle Code, no “stop or stopping,” when prohibited, means no cessation of movement of a vehicle, occupied or not, except when necessary to avoid conflict with other traffic, or in compliance with the direction of a police officer or official traffic control device or signal.

So “stopping” includes “parking,” but “parking” does not necessarily include “stopping,” from a legal standpoint. The major difference seems to be that in a “No Parking” zone, you may stop temporarily to load or unload merchandise or passenger, which you may not do in a “No Stopping” zone.
