The man, who was first reported as a snowmobiler, has been missing since a large avalanche was reported around 4:30 p.m. on Sunday in the Snake Creek area of Wasatch County. Officials clarified he was snow biking in the area when the avalanche struck. Search and rescue teams responded to the area but were forced to suspend search operations due to unstable snow and other avalanche hazards.Kam Kohler with Wasatch County Search and Rescue said crews requested the help of a state helicopter to aid in the search. A team from the canyons plans to drop explosives into the avalanche slide area to make the terrain safer for search and rescue teams to operate.The Wasatch County Sheriff's Office said Sunday's avalanche was the second reported in the Snake Creek area that buried a victim. In a statement, Sheriff's Office officials said, "We urge all backcountry recreationists to check current avalanche forecasts and conditions through the Utah Avalanche Center before entering the backcountry. Avalanche danger can change rapidly, and recent storm cycles have created hazardous conditions in many areas of the Wasatch Mountains." The Salt Lake, Provo and Skyline regions of Utah's mountains remain in "considerable" avalanche danger as of Monday morning, according to the Utah Avalanche Center.
