Two Elgin-area businesses can help you add greens and other healthy and nutritious dining options to your daily diet. Among the offerings at MVP Nutrition in Carpentersville are teas, coffees, meal replacement shakes, shake pops, oats, beauty drinks and protein bowls. Owners Percy and Evelisse Powell recently added vegan-friendly, organic “daily greens” beverages to their menu. Meanwhile, in West Dundee, Mary Jo and Jack Gallaway are operating Kane County Microgreens, an indoor vertical farm.
Gallaway said the produce he and his wife sell is grown from organic seeds, in organic soil and using organic fertilizer, with no pesticides ever used. They take orders online and schedule delivery. “Our focus is to grow salad greens to order then deliver them to the customer within 24 hours of harvest. This model allows us to manage a quality business and deliver the customer the freshest greens at a tremendous value,” Gallaway said.
